Following a successful debut season in charge at FC Porto which brought a Primeira Divisão title, Artur Jorge continued where he left off in the 1985-86 season and put together a successful title defense.
The ever-dependable goalscorer Fernando Gomes contributed 20 in the League, although this was one of those rare seasons when he was not the division's leading scorer. The emerging Algerian forward Rabah Madjer played a big part and contributed a further dozen goals to Porto's cause.
Hopes of European Cup success were narrowly ended on away goals by Barcelona, but big things in that arena were just around the corner.
